Three Men, Including Singaporean Teen, Fined RM3,500 Each Over Illegal Racing on Johor's Second Link

JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 3 — Three men, including a 19-year-old Singaporean, were fined RM3,500 each by the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to offences involving motorcycle racing and dangerous riding on the Malaysia–Singapore Second Link Expressway.

The three accused entered their pleas before Magistrate Nur Fatin Mohamad Farid.

The court also ordered a four-month jail term in default of payment of the fine.

Offences took place in October

Two Malaysian men, Muhammad Daniel Hakim Mohamad Rashid, 24, and Gonzales Mckhovic Anak George, 18, were charged with motorcycle racing along the northbound section of the Second Link Expressway between KM7.8 and KM18.2.

The incident occurred at approximately 2.10am on October 18, 2026.

The third accused, Singaporean Syajahan Alfian Abdullah, 19, was charged with riding at high speed and testing his motorcycle's speed at KM12.5 of the southbound expressway at the same time.

Charges under amended road transport legislation

The two Malaysian accused were charged under Section 42A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, as amended in 2026.

The Singaporean accused faced a charge under Section 42A(2) of the same legislation.

The case was prosecuted by Johor Bahru Traffic Court prosecuting officer Inspector S. Vikineswary.

Road safety concerns remain

The Second Link Expressway is an important cross-border route connecting Johor and Singapore, carrying daily commuter and commercial traffic.

Racing and speed-testing activities on public roads pose risks not only to participating riders but also to other road users.

The convictions highlight the legal consequences associated with using public roads for unauthorised racing activities.
